ABC’s Freeform and Marvel Are Developing a Live-Action ‘Cloak and Dagger’ TV Series

Today, it was announced by Variety that the long in-development Cloak and Dagger series has been greenlight by ABC and Marvel as a “straight-to-series-order” on their teen channel Freeform (formally ABC Family). Originally the series was going to debut on ABC back when AKA Jessica Jones was in-development made several years ago.

Stars or a showrunner has yet-to-be announced but a plot synopsis also has debuted for the series. Yes, it’s going to be aimed a superhero teen drama:

“The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.”

It’ll be interesting how a teen Marvel show will go but this could open up the doorway for other teen shows like The Runaways. The Runaways the film has been in development hell since 2010 but a TV Series has long been offered as an alternative. The comic series revolves around a group of teens living in the Marvel universe who find out their parents are secretly super villains. So they all runaway to fight crime in spite of their parents. Ironically, Cloak and Dagger also have roles in this series as well so it could work as teen drama on Freeform.
