We’ve been hearing for a while now that Namor The Submariner is a much-desired character to join the Marvel cinematic universe. It started to look like Namor was stuck in a similar situation as Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, as his solo film rights were at Universal Pictures limiting the character to a supporting role within other Marvel films.
Now, if a new rumor is to be believed he might be making his live-action debut soon.
Reel News Hawaii is now revealing a rumor that Namor could be finally making his live-action debut in the near future. While hinting it might be film related.
There’s buzz around the island that two rival productions could be swimming on our waters. “Aquaman” & “Submariner”. Fingers crossed! pic.twitter.com/1WLbZkWJAN

Location production sites do have direct studio and crew sources on the ground, but we’ll be considering this a massive rumor at this point.
As it’s been pointed out the former mutant has been rebranded as an inhuman, which could see him joining the ranks of the Inhumans series.
Inhumans is indeed shooting in Kalaeloa, Hawaii but we feel like that would be a terrible waste of the character as he’s one of the top-tier characters deserving of his own solo franchise.
Here are Kevin Feige’s comments concerning Namor when he spoke to IGN alluding Namor had similar rights issues as Hulk. At one point Universal had been developing a Submariner movie.
“Yes, but it’s slightly more complicated than that. Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy.”
“There are older contracts that still involve other parties that mean we need to work things out before we move forward on it. As opposed to an Iron Man or any of the Avengers or any of the other Marvel characters where we could just put them in.”
More recently, Feige mentioned that the Illuminati could be showing up in Avengers: Infinity War. Namor just happens to be a member alongside Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Iron Man.
“Well, what’s fun about the Illuminati is that there are certain characters interacting with other certain characters, so I don’t know about that particular storyline, but certainly some of those characters you will see on screen in the next Avengers.”
Captain America: Civil War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely mentioned last year to Hollywood Reporter they’d love to include Namor in future films. They were tasked to writing scripts for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, when they mention characters it’s possible they’ll be able to include them.
“Namor. He is kind of a jerk and has a chip on his shoulder and he is a king and lives underwater. The degree of difficulty is so high, though. Cause it could be a great movie or it could be truly terrible.”
Marvel CCO Joe Quesada was asked directly by Kevin Smith on his Fatman On Batman podcast last year if Namor will be showing up in Avengers: Infinity War. Refusing to confirm or deny Namor’s involvement.
“I cannot confirm or deny, sir.”
Throwing him to the television wolves is really odd to us considering that we keep hearing about an MCU lineup shake-up being on the way for the main Avengers roster. Bringing in Namor for Phase Four makes a lot of sense being one of the only major members yet to finally show up in the films.
Avengers: Infinity War is shooting extensively over the next year until it’s wrap date of September 8th. We know that Atlanta won’t be the only location as The Russos will be spending some time shooting in Scotland. The Infinity War production could make a trip to the South Pacific later in the year along with other locations.
Giving Namor an introduction in Infinity War, like Chadwick Boseman‘s Black Panther and Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War to help set up their solo outings wouldn’t be entirely shocking to us.
They’re already seemingly doing this with having Brie Larson‘s Carol Danvers being introduced prior to her Captain Marvel movie. Adding another introduction is just par for the course for Marvel.
Other possibilities could include that Inhumans might be directly connected to Infinity War or Marvel Studios is indeed developing a Submariner movie after figuring out the rights with Universal.
As usual with massive production rumors, we’ll need more information to help support it.
