‘Scarface’ Expected To Shoot In Atlanta and LA; Will Ayer Direct Before ‘Gotham City Sirens’?

It has been previously reported Universal’s third Scarface incarnation starring Diego Luna (Rogue One) would be set in Los Angeles, moving from the previous locales of Chicago and Miami. The third installment according to production sources will most likely shoot in LA, but we’ve now learned Atlanta (and surrounding area) is another location planned for the production.

Atlanta has been a hotbed for studio productions big, medium, and small.

Last month, Deadline had reported that David Ayer was in “early negotiations” to replace Antoine Fuqua, who was pulled away by Sony to direct The Equalizer 2 this fall. We haven’t uncovered production start and wrap dates for Scarface but with Universal slating the picture for release next August, there is an expectation shooting will begin sometime between late summer or fall.

This could mean plans for Ayer to direct Gotham City Sirens this year will likely be placed on hold, that’s if Ayer is confirmed for Scarface. However, they wouldn’t be booking production space unless they had someone ready in the director’s chair. The fate of Sirens is unknown at the moment. if Ayer jumps ship Warner Bros. could delay or like with Suicide Squad 2, seek out another director to take over for David. If Ayer decides to make Scarface first, WB could delay or like with Suicide Squad 2, seek out another director to take over for David.
