‘Gambit’ Will Indeed Shoot In New Orleans As Location Scouting Begins

We’ve known for years that Channing Tatum had big plans to bring the production of Gambit to the city of New Orleans. However, there seemed to be a little bit of a question if those plans would stick after two directors parted ways and Gore Verbinski‘s recent hiring.

As a producer, Tatum has some sway on where the film shoots. Not unlike Ryan Reynolds, who pushed Fox to shoot the Deadpool films in his hometown of Vancouver. A new bit of intel suggests all signs are pointing towards a good chunk of the film will indeed shoot in NOLA, when and how long is a bit of mystery at the moment.

Omega Underground has learned that Fox and producers have hired location scouts primarily scouting in and around the New Orleans area. The team’s credits include Deja Vu, Now You See Me, 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street, Terminator: Genisys, Jurassic World, Logan, and Dawn of The Planet of The Apes, which all shot in New Orleans. Gambit is currently in the pre-production phase and location scouting is underway.

Two rival gangs Thieves and Assassins are located in the city along with Remy’s family. New Orleans is strongly tied to the character’s origin and has been expected since the film’s announcement, but we finally have some evidence it’s actually happening.

Tatum also owns the beautiful New Orleans bar and restaurant Saints and Sinners, which could make for a cool locale for the film if they end up using it.

Gambit is expected to begin production sometime in early 2018 with its release date officially set for Valentines Day in 2019.
