Marvel and Netflix To Roll Out A Series Every Six Months

Today, at the TCA’s (via IGN) Netflix revealed some new release date tidbits on their every growing Marvel universe set within the confines of Hell’s Kitchen/ After the massive success of Daredevil that debuted earlier on the online streaming service many fans have wondered when the next series Jessica Jones will debut. While most of us guessed this the Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos went onto confirm that Jessica Jones will debut in the fourth quarter of 2015. He goes onto say they plan on releasing a Marvel series every six months “I think ideally there will be a rhythm of about every six months you’ll get a new season or a new series from the Defenders group. And then they’ll crossover into a combined [Defenders] season once we’ve launched the first season of each of the four characters.”

The next series after Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones is Luke Cage starring Mike Colter. After that comes Iron Fist but the show has yet to find a star or showrunner. Regarding a Iron Fist announcement the CCO adds “Hopefully soon, It’s always a little extra complex with Marvel in announcing things.”  Several weeks ago Birth.Movies.Death wrote up a piece regarding Iron Fist and it’s trouble finding the correct vision that will be grounded like the other shows but still stay faithful to the comics. Given that Iron Fist has many fantastic elements (His chi makes his fists hard as iron) it’s hard to keep it grounded and gritty like Daredevil.

Lastly, when asked if other spinoff shows beside the core four could debut on Netflix like a Punisher origin story who will debut in Daredevil season two “It is possible for sure. That’s the beauty of the Marvel universe.” He lastly added a small nugget “Any of them could spin out into films too.”

Ever since the announcement that Netflix will be getting the street level heroes many Marvel fans have hoped for a Punisher origin story along with other heroes like Moon Knight. Others have thought this could bring the Marvel Underground heroes to the fore like Blade, Morbius and Ghost Rider leading to a Midnight Sons crossover series down the road.
