Joel Edgerton Joins Jennifer Lawrence In Francis Lawrence’s Spy Flick ‘Red Sparrow’

The Hollywood Reporter has word that Joel Edgerton (The Thing, The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty) will play a CIA agent in the Russian spy flick Red Sparrow starring Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence as a Russian intelligence officer and based on the novel by Jason Matthews.

The story, an adaptation of the Jason Matthews’ espionage novel, follows a Russian intelligence officer (Lawrence) who is ordered against her will to become a “Sparrow,” a trained seductress, and to operate against a young CIA agent who handles the Agency’s most important Russian mole.

Jennifer’s Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence will be directing the film.
