Lucasfilm is looking to finally cast the first black actress in a leading Star Wars role as Variety reports that Westworld’s Thandie Newton is in talks for an undisclosed part in Han Solo: A Star Wars Story.
We suspect this part just might be Sana Starros, Han’s former partner in crime and possible ex-wife. A role we had assumed could have gone to Emilia Clarke originally.
I’m starting to think Clarke is playing Bria Tharen instead, another female character with a murky criminal background connected to Han’s life previously to meeting up with Luke Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi.
Newton could join cast members Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and possibly Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Production is currently underway and we expect that the British actress will be announced soon if she’s indeed landed the role.
Han Solo is expected to be released on May 25th, 2018.
