David Ayer Unlikely Directing ‘Suicide Squad 2’; Mel Gibson Had Conversations

When it was announced that David Ayer would direct Gotham City Sirens reuniting him with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn we assumed this could drastically delay plans for Suicide Squad 2.

However, it’s starting to look like Warner Bros. will instead move ahead without Ayer. Deadline briefly states that the studio had “conversations” with Mel Gibson about directing.

I’ve heard that Warner Bros has had conversations about Gibson directing Suicide Squad 2 for instance. Not sure whether that will happen.

While we’ve heard previous rumblings that the studio is looking to develop the sequel, nothing official has been announced by Warner Bros.

On the Mel Gibson front, he’s been a controversial figure lately due to his volatile personal life including many racist and abusive tirades (some caught on tape). We’d like to think Warner Bros. would avoid him altogether, but they kept accused domestic abuser Johnny Depp in their Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and have given him a massive role in sequels.

As with white male celebrities, Gibson has never lost work and has since fallen upwards with six Oscar nominations for Hacksaw Ridge including Best Director.
