Will Smith Has Entered Early Talks To Play ‘Genie’ in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’

Today, Deadline is reporting that Suicide Squad star Will Smith has entered early talks to play The Genie in Guy Richie’s upcoming live-action Aladdin remake. The character was made famous by the late Robin Williams in the classic animated film. Currently, no actor has signed on to play the main roles of Aladdin himself or his love interest Jasmine. But adding a huge name like Will Smith could seriously bring attention to the upcoming remake.

This is just one of several live-action remakes in the works at Disney that include The Lion King, Mulan, and Dumbo just to name a few. Will Smith was once in talks to star in Dumbo but he seems to passed on that for Aladdin. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast become a massive success for the studio surpassing $1 Billion at the worldwide box office.

Aladdin is expected to have a long 6-month shoot in the UK starting this July through January. Something we reported on last month.
