Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien: Covenant’ Sequels Being Reassessed By Fox Due To Poor Box Office

Another tidbit coming from TheHollywoodReport states that 20th Century Fox is now reconsidering/reassessing giving the go-ahead to Ridley Scott‘s two Alien: Covenant sequels (one with the working title Alien: Awakening). At one point Scott suggested the projects could be shot in Australia again. However, the mixed reception and weak box office returns have put those plans into question for the moment.

Sources say Fox will have to reassess two intended sequels Scott has pitched while he is off helming Getty kidnapping movie All the Money in the World and then drug lord drama The Cartel.

Fox has potential options moving forward possibly placing Ridley in a producing role and getting a new director to finish the films on a scaled-back budget, maybe shooting them back-to-back to save money. Also, potentially resurrecting Neill Blomkamp‘s Alien 5 project which Scott helped freeze to get Covenant made first. It seems bonkers that the studio doesn’t consider bringing Ripley back for one more film when Sigourney Weaver is still in fighting shape and recently working with Neill.

With Ridley Scott certainly busy for the next couple of years they have time to figure out what they’re going to do with Alien: Awakening and Alien 5.
