‘Guardians 2’ and ‘Age of Ultron’ VFX Supervisor Hired For ‘Captain Marvel’

We’ve learned that visual effects supervisor Christopher Townsend has been hired for Captain Marvel. Until casting ramps up in coming months, crew hirings are the main focus for Marvel at the moment.

Townsend is no stranger to working on Marvel movies as his previous credits include Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2. He also got his start working on Star Wars: A New Hope for ILM while at the company worked on all three Star Wars prequels and A.I.: Artifical Intelligence.

His work on Star Wars and Guardians should make fans happy he’s the one helping to bring the Skrulls to the screen.

Previously, we reported that Gravity‘s Andy Nicholson would be tackling Captain Marvel’s production design.

The film will star Brie Larson as Air Force pilot Carol Danvers and will feature Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (Omega Underground first broke Jackson’s involvement) in a large role taking place in the 1990s. Marvel’s Kevin Feige has also confirmed the film will incorporate the Kree-Skrull War mythology from the comics.

Captain Marvel aka Warbird is expected to begin production around January-February in Los Angeles, California. Its release date has been set for March 8th, 2019.
