‘Hobbit’ Trilogy VFX Supervisor Will Tackle ‘Alita: Battle Angel’

It was revealed over the summer that Weta Digital would be working on the Robert Rodriguez film Alita: Battle Angel. The former James Cameron directorial manga/anime adaptation was placed in hiatus when Jim turned his attention to his multiple Avatar sequels, only to be handed off to Robert and completing it’s production at Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas months back.

In the twenty-sixth century, a female cyborg is rescued from the scrap heap by a scientist.

It’s currently deep in post-production for it’s upcoming summer release and we have learned that Weta Digital veteran Eric Saindon and Rthynm & Hues veteran Richard E. Hollander are hard at work as the visual effects supervisors.

Eric was the vfx supervisor on the Hobbit trilogy and Pete’s Dragon. He has worked on plenty of other Weta films in different vfx roles those credits includes the Lord of The Rings trilogy, Avatar, and King Kong. Hollander was the visual effects supervisor on films such as Alien: Resurrection, 300: Rise of An Empire, and Blade.

The impressive cast assembled by Robert Rodriguez includes Christoph Waltz, Rosa Salazar, Keean Johnson, Mahershala Ali, Jennifer Connelly, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeff Fahey, Eiza Gonzalez, Lana Condor, Michelle Rodriguez, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Ed Skrein, Casper Van Dein, and Elle LaMont.

A teaser trailer is likely on the horizon with Fox setting Alita for release on July 20th, 2018.
