Tarantino Clarifies Next Film Is About 1969, Not Manson – Tackling Vietnam War?

Quentin Tarantino has finally opened up concerning his untitled ninth film to Indie Wire. He reveals the film was being misreported as a Charles Manson biopic and is actually about the year of 1969. This might support talk of the film taking more of an anthology spin similar to Pulp Fiction.

“It’s not Charles Manson, it’s 1969,” cautioned Quentin Tarantino at an award-season post-screening brunch at Estrella on Sunset for Sofia Coppola’s “The Beguiled” (Focus Features).

This could mean we might be heading to the Vietnam War, Woodstock, the Hell’s Angels working security for a  Rolling Stones concert, the moon landing, Nixon’s first year in the White House, and last Beatles concert. The former seems like a good bet to us considering Tarantino is a huge fan of films like Apocalypse Now (originally starred Reservoir Dogs’ Harvey Keitel in Martin Sheen’s role) and Brian de Palma’s Causalities of War.

In the 1994 documentary Quentin Tarantino: Hollywood Boy Wonder, he mentions that Casualties is his favorite war film. Which helped inspire a major scene in Reservoir Dogs.

Pulp Fiction has a Vietnam War call-back, where Butch’s father’s watch is brought back to US by Christopher Walken’s Captain Koons after spending years in a POW camp and it’s revealed to him how important the watch should be to him. The Vietnam Vet was referenced in Django Unchained via bounty Crazy Craig Koons.

Could this movie show Butch’s father and Captain Koons time in the Vietnam War?

Walken played Leonardo DiCaprio’s (rumored for a role) father in Catch Me If You Can.

The film is currently trying to find a production and distribution partner.
