Back in July, Omega Underground first caught word that Quentin Tarantino was hot on the idea of reuniting with Django Unchained and Oscar-Winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio on his untitled 9th film.
Holy shit. Leonardo DiCaprio might be the one playing Charles Manson in the Tarantino flick. Wow. pic.twitter.com/nXFD6WC3gU

At the time, trades incorrectly made it seem #9 would be a Charles Manson biopic (instead of the backdrop of the story – LA during the summer of 1969) and we assumed Leo could be eyeing that role. This was before the real plot and character details made their way online.
In the fall, this was reaffirmed by the trades and today Deadline says Leonardo DiCaprio is going to sign-on to play an aging actor in the movie. It’s one of the two main male leads of the picture, the other being a stunt double.
Variety adds that Al Pacino is also now being eyed for an undisclosed role. I’d assume a studio or Hollywood personality.
Margot Robbie had previously been reported as pretty much a lock for the role of Sharon Tate. Having Robbie and DiCaprio reunite after The Wolf of Wall Street, and now Al Pacino (via Variety) suggests that Quentin is aiming to recruit Martin Scorcese alumni.
We’ve recently confirmed it’s on the path to begin filming this June in Los Angeles.
It’s assumed that the often busy Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt were being eyed for this possible stunt double part. We’ll see if either bite.
Continuing the nine theme, Sony has set its release date for August 9th, 2019.
