‘Godzilla’ Star Ken Watanbe Joins ‘Detective Pikachu’

Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Oscar-nominated actor Ken Watanabe (Godzilla, The Last Samurai)  has joined the cast of Lionsgate’s Detective Pikachu. While you may think he would make a perfect Pokemon Professor in the first ever live-action Pokemon movie the actor is actually playing a character named Detective Yoshida made just for the film.

Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) joined the cast as the voice of the smart-ass yet cute talking Pikachu with Justice Smith (The Get Down) playing his human companion. Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) is set to direct with production starting this month in London.

Detective Pikachu hits May 10th, 2019
