Jessica Chastain Enters Talks To Star in ‘IT: Chapter 2’ as Beverly

Ever since IT: Chapter 1 exploded onto screens last fall everyone has been trying to fan cast which actors will play each adult member of The Losers Club when Pennywise the Clown returns to Derry. None has been more mentioned than two-time Oscar nominated actress Jessica Chastain to play adult Beverly. Chastain who previously worked with director Andy Muschietti on his first horror film Mama; has a great working relationship with the director.

In an interview last year Variety mentioned how alike Jessica Chastain looks compared to child actor Sophia Lillis:

Do you have any ideas for actors for the kids as adults? Sophia (Lillis) does kind of look like your “Mama” star Jessica Chastain.

Andy: I don’t know, does she? [Laughs] Jessi is an amazing actress and very good friend and I would love her to play Beverly.

Barbara: She also loves this movie.

Andy: Yeah, she loves the movie and it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense, but we still have to make that happen. There are a lot of ideas for the rest of the cast that I’m playing with, but it’s a bit too premature to say those names right now.

Ironically, it has now come out that Andy Muschietti had already spoken with Chastain about appearing in a post-credit sequence for IT: Chapter 1 as Beverly herself. The idea was ultimately scrapped but it’s obvious Muschietti very much wanted Chastain since the very beginning. Who next will join The Losers Club for the next installment. Bill Skarsgård will also return as Pennywise.
