Plan for Aspiring MuleSoft Devs

Plan for Aspiring MuleSoft Devs

No one is born to be a MuleSoft Developer. Certain developers have prior Integration experiences, while others are learning directly from a University or Bootcamp and others learn by themselves. Everybody starts someplace. This month, I was selected as an official MuleSoft Mentor, and in the spirit of a mentor, I’m going to give those who are aspiring MuleSoft Developers a 6 – to 12-month plan for making their dream of being a MuleSoft Developer become a reality! In actuality, this article will be the very first of my “Aspiring MuleSoft Developer” series.

It took me a full year before I joined my former employer, the MuleSoft team, and to become an experienced MuleSoft Developer. In reflecting on my experience, I am convinced that MuleSoft has developed top-quality training and an online community which has grown at a pace I could never have imagined. Making use of both will accelerate your progress and allow you to grow into an elite MuleSoft Developer.

Before we get started, here are two terms of disclaimer:

  1. I can’t guarantee that this will be a standard plan, but I hope that those who are aspiring MuleSoft developers will take this blog post as a guideline to chart their MuleSoft career path.
  2. The plan was developed by me and not by MuleSoft. The plan was formulated based on my experiences using MuleSoft products as a partner or partner. MuleSoft offers a developer-focused learning path that includes multiple courses.

Now, let’s get started!

Day 1: Attend the Anypoint Platform Development: Basics course that is a self-paced or instructor-led course

There are a variety of options in training. But, I’ve only attended MuleSoft Certification training and, personally, I believe they’re able to do the job. Developers, for example, would recommend enrolling in an Anypoint Platform Development Fundamentals course. Based on your style of learning and your financial budget, you may opt for self-paced or instructor-led courses. Both courses are the same curriculum and are designed to help you pass exams like the MuleSoft certified developer (Level 1) (Mule 4) Certification Test. Make use of this training forum if you’re struggling to complete this course as well as have remaining questions. While you’re completing the material, be sure to take the time to complete all self-study exercises and exams. Be sure you take notes and go over all difficult areas.

Month 2. Work on an experiment and add an HTML code into your public Code repository

As you don’t have any experience as an experienced MuleSoft Developer, now is your chance to shine. Make your mark by designing and implementing a project that you can practice on. As APIs are common integrations, I would suggest creating your own API Led Connectivity project with at least one previous experience or process and a system API. Create a repository that is public. I have used GitHub as well as Bitbucket. Pick one that is suitable for your requirements. If you decide to use GitHub and don’t have personal websites, I suggest creating your own static GitHub page. Push and commit your code after you have completed each iteration.

Month 3 Continue to study and pass an Exam to be Certified.

Everyone learns in a different way. Here are some steps I took to prepare. Start by practicing for the exam. Review any concepts you missed. Finally, you should retake the test until you score at least a 90 percent. I have observed the practice exam to be less difficult than the real exam, and a score of 90%-100 percent is a sign that you’re likely to know the subject. If you score less than that, I suggest you spend another 2 to 4 days to ensure that you understand the basics. To get an idea of concepts that you can test, be sure to print your information sheet.

The 4th month of the Begin taking part in MuleSoft Meetups and consume MuleSoft Community materials

The MuleSoft community is close and close to my heart. Apart from my coursework, I draw almost all of the information I have from the MuleSoft Community. I have discovered the basics of a subject and treasures of knowledge by attending meetups as well as reviewing the topics. These are my top resources:

MuleSoft Meetups

month 5: Create Content and/or Participate in MuleSoft Meetups

Now that you’ve got your feet on the ground. It’s time to begin contributing. Contributing can appear daunting initially, but it can do four things for your career.

month 6: Start to build your LinkedIn and Apply for jobs

It’s time to display your efforts. The best way I’ve discovered to do this is to create your LinkedIn profile and then connect every piece of Content. Here are some tips:

  1. Include MuleSoft Developer into your slogan. A few examples are: “MuleSoft Developer,” “Aspiring MuleSoft Developer,” “Certified MuleSoft Developer,” “Actively seeking the MuleSoft Developer position.”
  2. Make sure you click your “Open for” button to search for an opening for a new job.
  3. Include your certificates, including your certifications, projects, and public repositories
  4. Explore LinkedIn and then apply to businesses that you like.
  5. Make sure you update your resume
  6. Apply
  7. Don’t be shy to contact recruiters directly.

Conclusion

These are just ideas. I can’t guarantee that the ideas are a good fit for your situation or your timetable, but I thought I would provide you with a start base. Tell me how you did. Did you enjoy this article?
