As you get older, your body naturally begins to experience the signs and symptoms of aging. But this doesn’t mean you have to accept it. There are plenty of ways to retain a youthful appearance without loading up on meds or trying questionable procedures.
Safe Ways to Look Young and Healthy
There are two numbers or measurements that you need to be aware of when it comes to aging. The first one is your chronological age. This is your “traditional” age – dictated by how many birthdays you’ve had. The second one is your biological age, which refers to how old your body appears to be based on physical signs, health, and functioning.
It’s impossible to change your chronological age. However, there are plenty of steps you can take to turn back your biological age. And though a 50-year-old will never look 21 again, there are ways to shed years off your appearance and restore a certain amount of youthfulness to your looks.
The key is to be smart about how you address aging, looks, and beauty. There are lots of procedures and medications on the market that promise to help you turn back the clock.
However, many of them end up doing more harm than good. It’s up to you to do your due diligence before making any decisions. Having said that, here are a few suggestions:
1. Exercise Daily
Few things are more beneficial for your overall health and well-being than daily exercise. And here’s the best part: It doesn’t take much. As little as 15 minutes of walking per day is enough to make you look and feel younger. However, if you’re willing to put in 30 to 45 minutes of moderate to vigorous cardiovascular exercise, you’ll get even better results.
2. Overhaul Your Diet
In addition to daily exercise, we recommend switching up your diet. Reduce processed foods, refined sugars, sodium, and excessive carbohydrates. Instead, rely on lean meats, fresh fruits and veggies, and whole grains. Cut out as much alcohol and caffeine as possible and drink plenty of water instead.
In fact, better hydration is one of the most important keys to looking and feeling young. It enhances the appearance of your skin and gives your organs the fuel they need to function.
3. Fight Back Against Hair Loss
Hair loss is normal. The average person loses somewhere between 50 to 100 hairs per day. However, they’re also in the process of regrowing the same amount. The problem is that, as you age, your capacity for hair growth shrinks, and follicles become dormant. This can lead to hair thinning and balding.
The good news is there are plenty of ways to fight back against hair loss without surgery or medication. One of the best methods is a technique known as low level laser therapy, or LLLT.
This method, which is usually administered through a hair loss laser cap, uses safe LED lights to energize inactive follicles, restore circulation, and reenergize follicles so they enter back into the normal hair growth cycle.
4. Develop a Skincare Routine
It doesn’t matter if you’re 30 or 60, man or woman, Caucasian or African American – every adult needs a daily skincare routine. The type of routine you choose will depend on many factors – but you need to do something! Included in this routine should be a daily application of sunscreen and moisturizing products. You should also wash your face at least once per day.
5. Dress Well
What you wear has a major impact on how old you look. And all it takes is a few simple wardrobe swaps to shave several years off your appearance.
The key to dressing well as you age is to work with what you’ve got. If you’re 55, you have no business trying to wear the same styles that your 25-year-old daughter wears. Doing so will make you look more out of touch than ever. Instead, you need to find stylish trends that work for your body type and age.
Start with properly fitting clothing. Avoid boxy or baggy clothes. Likewise, stay away from tight-fitting clothing that hugs you in all the wrong places. Instead, choose clothing that fits well, but doesn’t make it look like you’re trying too hard.
Look Younger…Longer
You can’t do anything about your chronological age. We’re each getting older with every tick of the clock. But there are plenty of safe and healthy steps you can take to turn back the clock on your biological age without surgery, medication, or other risky methods.
Try a few of them and track your results. It might take several weeks or months, but you’ll like what you see in the mirror!
