Businessman and Scientologist Grant Cardone says changing his thinking allowed him to finally get clean.
Substance abuse can create a very difficult lifestyle rut of addiction. I have to say, it was only just recently that I found out who Grant Cardone was, or even that he’s a high-profile Scientologist. And after searching his name and combing through his website, I have gotta say the extensive list of achievements he’s racked up over the last few decades is inspirational.
At the age of 25, Grant Cardone was just getting out of a rehab center. In a recent interview, he explained how one move helped him hold onto sobriety.
“I read the book Dianetics when I was 25 years old,” he recalls. “I was right out of a treatment center. That book helped me understand why I was using drugs so much. It actually helped me in my recovery process.”
According to Grant Cardone, Scientology was the answer to many of his self-caused problems. He says the belief system helped him make sense out of life and out of his connection to God. At first, it helped him stay off drugs, but he still wasn’t living the life he truly wanted. After 20 years, he had a second experience with Scientology that would once again change his life. He reports running into a highly successful bond trader friend and asking him what was so different about his approach. The friend explained it was Scientology.
When he got to the Scientology Church in San Diego, Cardone said he wasn’t concerned about the negative stereotypes or the celebrities who had been highly successful with the methodology. He says he was only concerned about one thing, “What can you guys do for me?” He said the answer came in the form of a question, “Well, what do you want to handle? What do you want to do with your life?”
At 45 years old, Grant Cardone was single and not in the right place to be a family man—but that is what he wanted. “I was scared of it—I was actually terrified of that kind of commitment,” he admits. “I owned three businesses at the time. I had a little bit of money, but I didn’t know what to do with the money… If you look at the trajectory of my life, since I was 45 years old, you’re going to see it’s slowly going upward and then, all of a sudden, going straight up. And I have been there at that peak now for 15 years. I’ve done courses, books, auditing. It has given me so much peace in my life—so much more personal confidence. I used to be scared of everything. I don’t have that anymore.”
Cardone says if people want to find the negative media or turn to the tabloids, they can find a garbage shock story. However, he says he chose Scientology because a trusted friend and highly successful businessman told him it was the real deal. And, he says, that decision has made all the difference in flipping his own life.
