A directory submit is putting your website through a directory, where it will be placed under its rightful category. Doing this ensures you go get improved link building as well.

Directory submissions is a type of off-page SEO as you basically tell other sites and users what your platform is all about. For instance, a website that focuses on devices will get backlinks from similar and related sites.

Submissions fall into three categories- reciprocal, free and regular and featured and paid listings.

Reciprocal Web Listing. Whenever a web owner submits a directory link it will be checked and approved by an administrator. Moreover, a link will be added on your site as a form of reciprocation.

Regular and Free Web Listing. As stated, submitting your website for categorization is free and you won’t need to pay anything. However, the admin may take longer to approve of your submission and it isn’t guaranteed.

Featured and Paid Web Listing. Along with your submission the administrator charges a fee for your site to be listed in the directory. The process is faster. e.g., within hours or a day. You also get invaluable backlinks, often in a package or for lifetime costs.

Directory submit sites are many and you can send in submissions as long as you have the time or money. However, priority should go to ones that offer them for free or have guarantees that they’re going to do as promised.

Keep in mind to carefully choose the category of your submission or else it will get lost and no one would find it. Don’t spam and provide the correct stats and physical address, and lastly stay away from ones that have banners or link back as they can be detrimental to your SEO.
