In 2014, Chad Price noticed a serious gap in the healthcare market. After becoming frustrated while waiting for lab results for his sister, he and his brother banded together with a mutual friend to create Mako Medical Laboratories. Since then, the revolutionary medical testing company has grown to challenge the industry giants in this sector.
Now well established, the complex laboratory offers diagnostic testing for physicians, hospitals, and urgent care facilities across the country. By combining the latest robotics, innovative cloud-based technology, app platforms, and leading facilities, Mako Medical is entirely transforming the realms of medical lab testing in the United States.
The company is headquartered in North Carolina with operations in 17 states. With experienced doctors underpinning the Mako Medical process, the company delivers an affordable and reliable option for healthcare professionals. Co-founder Chad Price spoke to The Silicon Review about how the business is disrupting the medical industry.
Supporting Charities and Nonprofits
Unlike many leading businesses, Mako Medical was founded with a strong emphasis on supporting the community and U.S. Army veterans. When the business first launched, the three co-founders were keen to ensure that they gave back to the wider community and those who needed it the most. While the company serves an important purpose in the healthcare sphere, the team has never lost sight of this core value.
Chad Price expounded on this in a recent interview:
Mako Medical is a Christian company (the co-founders met at Bible study), it should come as no surprise that the team is always giving back. The founders are selective when it comes to choosing staff members who share their vision and passion. Of course, it’s not merely the employees who play a central role in these valiant efforts. The company’s well-known mascot is also responsible for spreading joy and good cheer.
“Mako’s mascot, Mikey the Mako, is a regular visitor at local children’s hospitals; he entertains the kids and brings a little light into what is sometimes a scary experience for them. Making an impact is the driving force behind everything we do,” said Chad Price.
Forward-Thinking Office Culture
That ethos of giving back to the community runs straight through the Mako Medical brand. When speaking about the office culture that the team has created, Chad Price explained that everyone pitches in. Instilling a sense of equality and teamwork throughout the business could be one of the reasons that it has become such a major player in the sector.
“Our office culture is innovative and energetic, and our teams strive for selflessness. Everyone rolls up their sleeves to help co-workers when needed, regardless of their titles, and communication is constant,” said Chad Price in the interview.
Hand-selecting the right staff members has meant that the founders are able to create a culture of open, honest communication. Over the years, that has been invaluable and has meant that the team gets genuine feedback. This move has also meant that the founders have had to strip back their egos and work for the greater good.
“One of the most important pieces of advice I can provide to other entrepreneurs is to surround yourself with a passionate group of talented people who aren’t afraid to argue their opinions. By checking your own ego at the front door and fostering that in your company culture, you will ultimately make better and more informed decisions.”
The Future Is Bright for Mako Medical
Now that Mako Medical has started to become a well-known brand in the healthcare field, the future looks bright for the company. In the interview, Chad Price talked about his hopes for the years to come. The savvy entrepreneur has big plans in store for the business.
“Looking ahead a few years, ideally, Mako has over 1,000 employees, clears over a billion dollars in revenue, and is converting that revenue into over 2,500 different charities and new non-profit programs across the country,” said Chad Price.
Never one to shy away from hard work, Chad Price plans to keep the ball rolling and continue along the same path. If all goes well, the coming years could see the company boosting its support for those in need and U.S. Army veterans. With that goal in mind, he is continually striving to make Mako Medical more successful and established.
“We would also like to support 500 missionaries around the world, with 50 percent of our work force being military veterans. It is a dream that inspires us to work a bit harder each and every day,” explained Chad Price.
